Hodgkin's Disease

Hodgkin's Disease is the third most common cancer in children and adolescents, 0 to 19 years of age. Most often it starts in lymph nodes in the upper parts of the body, in the chest, neck, or under the arms.

Comparable outcomes for advanced Hodgkin Lymphoma treated with umbilical cord blood stem cells indicate success of treatment. Physicians believe that blood from newborns umbilical cord may prove valuable for people requiring treatment. Study conducted by Celso A. Rodrigues, et al at University of Minnesota Medical School, Minneapolis observed 49% overall survival rate in 104 patients who underwent unrelated donor UCB transplantation for lymphoid malignancies such as Hodgkin’s Disease.
